CompeteFor posts 10,000th opportunity
22 December 2011
CompeteFor, the online portal which connects businesses with opportunities arising from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has published its 10,000th opportunity.
CompeteFor was designed by the London Development Agency with the London Business Network and London 2012, to open up business opportunities for SMEs; ensuring that they benefit from the investment made into the largest single sporting event to be held in the UK. BiP Solutions, working with Serco Ltd, is responsible for the design, hosting and management of the portal and also operates a Buyer Engagement Team aimed at encouraging contractors to publish their opportunities on the portal.
Since its launch in January 2008, over 153,000 businesses across the UK have registered on CompeteFor and contracts awarded so far are estimated to be worth a total of £1.9 billion. Around 73% of contracts awarded have been placed with SME businesses and 23% have gone to businesses with 10 or fewer staff.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson, said: “With 10,000 contracts worth almost £2 billion, CompeteFor has played an essential role in helping companies large and small to capitalise on the massive opportunities presented by the London 2012 Games.”
Other major buying organisations, such as Transport for London, Crossrail and the Metropolitan Police Service, now also use CompeteFor, resulting in around 950 buying organisations making opportunities available via the service.
Scott Smith, Commercial Director at BiP Solutions said: “We are thrilled to see CompeteFor achieve the significant milestone of 10,000 opportunities published. The portal has been a fantastic success and is now hailed as a model of effective supplier engagement, attracting interest from buyers not just in the UK, but internationally as well. As a Glasgow-based SME, BiP Solutions has itself benefited from using the CompeteFor service, and we are delighted that many other businesses across the UK have also been able to engage with opportunities arising from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
