BiP helps get GOPWA on the move
21 December 2011
BiP Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading provider of cutting-edge solutions and services that help optimise supply chain value, has helped a local charity get on the road by raising funds to provide a new minibus.
Throughout 2010 and early 2011, BiP staff worked tirelessly to raise funds for the Glasgow Old People’s Welfare Association (GOPWA). Established in 1948, GOPWA helps the elderly via ‘‘direct assistance’, relieving loneliness, isolation and poverty through its range of services. In 2010, after a company-wide consultation process, BiP staff selected the association as their supported charity for the year.
Through a variety of fundraising activities such as dress-down days, fetes, race nights and band nights, a total of £10,110 was raised for the charity. Upon hearing that the money was to be put towards the purchase of a new minibus, BiP decided to go one step further and fund the additional £16,890 to purchase a new vehicle for GOPWA. The minibus, which will carry the BiP logo, was formally handed over to the association on 21 December.
Sheena Glass, Director of GOPWA, said: "We continually fundraise to allow us to provide our services which, for some elderly people, are their only lifeline to the outside world. We aim to ensure that the elderly receive the help and rights to which they are entitled to make their lives easier. The new minibus will be instrumental in helping us to achieve our objectives and we are delighted that BiP has helped make this possible."
BiP Solutions CEO Ron Burges said: "BiP is passionate about its core values and principles and about contributing to our local community. The money raised by staff is another major achievement and exemplifies the company’s continued commitment to supporting good causes. I am sure that it will be beneficial.
"Appreciating the difficulty the charity would have in raising the additional funds needed to buy the minibus, I was more than happy for BiP to fund the whole project. The bus will carry the BiP logo so that all can see how the contributions each and every one of us made to this special Glasgow charity were put to great use. “I would like to thank everyone for their continued support and hard work.”
Each year, BiP staff nominate one ‘home’ and one ‘away’ charity as the focus of fundraising activity. For full details of previous charities supported by BiP Solutions, please visit www.bipcorporate.com/about/charity/
