Jobs boost as procurement specialists BiP Solutions moves to new Pacific Quay HQ

26 June 2009

BiP Solutions, the public sector procurement specialists, has relocated to Medius, a new state-of-the-art 26,000 sq ft headquarters at Pacific Quay, in the heart of Glasgow’s digital media quarter; a move that has allowed the company to create 100 new jobs.

BiP, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has grown rapidly in recent years to a £12.5m turnover by developing a range of leading-edge procurement solutions and securing contracts to create and host high-profile online procurement portals such as the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills' lower-value contracts platform for SMEs supply2.gov, the London 2012 competefor.com service and the MOD's Defence Contracts Bulletin.

In total, over 6,500 UK government procurement personnel now use BiP services to facilitate their contracting process.

While its UK presence grows, the company, which has developed a strong reputation for its innovative software development, is increasingly operating abroad - working for government organisations in the Middle East, Africa and New Europe after recruiting a team of 25 consultants.

It also runs the annual prestigious procurement exhibition Procurex Scotland, which last year attracted 5,000 registered attendees to the SECC. BiP will next year extend the model to a UK audience, with the first Procurex UK event taking place at the Birmingham NEC in March 2010.

The company's head count will rise to 260 as it recruits new staff over the coming months in communications, sales and IT, following the relocation from its previous HQ in Rutherglen, which is being partly funded by an £800,000 Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) grant from the Scottish Government.

BiP Solutions CEO Ron Burges said: “Our new HQ at Pacific Quay provides BiP with a platform of opportunity, offering not only a state of the art facility that reflects our ambition, but more importantly, the space to expand and deliver new and innovative services to a growing market, both nationally and internationally.

"While we recognise that the current economic climate is challenging; we look forward with confidence and excitement to what the company can achieve over the coming years.

“Our strategy is to increase the company’s range of services and capacity, and over recent months this has contributed to a 28 per cent growth in year-on-year sales. Our move to Medius is a key component in delivering our strategy.

"At a time of recession, this move to Pacific Quay, a location that sums up the energy and optimism of modern Glasgow, perfectly underlines BiP’s determination to focus on expansion and growth, and underlines the company’s continuing ambition, in this our 25th year of trading.
