BiP announces inaugural Scottish procurement Awards

16 June 2008

Government Opportunities (GO) magazine, published by BiP Solutions, has announced the launch of the GO Awards Scotland. The GO Awards Scotland, which build on the success of the national GO Awards, recognise innovation, achievement and exceptional standards in public service delivery; either by or on behalf of a Scottish public sector organisation.

Scotland has a thriving business community and a forward-thinking approach to public procurement. With public sector spending on goods and services across Scotland estimated to be £8 billion per annum. effective procurement can play a significant role in delivering effective services and value for money for the taxpayer.

The GO Awards Scotland will be judged by key figures within the procurement sector and business leaders. Confirmed judges include Nick Bowd, Director of the Scottish Procurment Directorate, John McClelland, author of the Review of Public Procurement in Scotland, Iain McMillan, Chairman of CBI Scotland, Dr Lesley Sawers, CEO of SCDI, Brian Baverstock, Chief Executive of APUC Ltd and Jim Miller, Strategic Sourcing Director of NHS Scotland.

Categories cover areas such as sustainability, corporate social responsibility, healthcare procurement, collaborative procurement, best service delivery and individual and team procurement excellence. The deadline for entries is August 25 2008.

Grahame Steed, Managing Editor of GO Magazine said: “The national GO Awards have proved to be a tremendous success, and we are convinced that the time is right for Scotland to have an Awards of its own. Scottish firms and public sector organisations can still compete in the national GO Awards, but now have the added advantage of showcasing their procurement expertise even closer to home.”

The 2008 GO Awards Scotland will be presented at a ceremony held during Procurex –
Scotland’s first dedicated private and public procurement exhibition – at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow on 29 October 2008. GO magazine is the media partner for Procurex: a fitting alliance given the aim of Procurex is to increase the awareness and recognition of the work of procurement professionals across the UK. Procurex is supported by many of the UK's most prominent procurement organisations and public bodies, including the Scottish Government.
