BiP Solutions celebrates excellence in public procurement
7 June 2007
Some of the biggest names in public procurement gathered in London on Wednesday 6 June for BiP Solutions’ flagship event, National Procurement Practitioners Day (N3PD) 2007, encompassing the Government Opportunities (GO) magazine Excellence in Public Procurement Awards.
More than 220 delegates gathered to hear addresses from high-profile keynote speakers Sir Michael Lyons, author of the influential Lyons Inquiry into Local Government and Chair of the BBC Trust; Dr Neil Bentley, Director of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI); and Dr Vincent Cable, Shadow Chancellor and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats.
The event was supported by 29 leading organisations from across the procurement
community, including the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government
(SOPO), the Central Buying Consortium (CBC), the CBI and the Chartered Institute
of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
N3PD was also supported by several UK government departments, including
the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Communities
and Local Government.
Held at the Institution of Civil Engineers at One Great George Street, N3PD brings the public procurement community together to recognise and celebrate the achievements of those who have striven to make a difference in delivering smarter, more efficient procurement – so benefiting the end user and taxpayer.
BiP Solutions is the publisher of GO magazine - the leading authority on all issues relating to public procurement and essential reading for procurement professionals. The magazine is media sponsor of the GO Awards, which are announced at N3PD.
The highly coveted GO Awards attract hundreds of entries, each of an extremely high standard. This year’s winners and highly commended entries were presented with Awards in eight categories ranging across the procurement spectrum, having attracted outstanding submissions from across the entire country.
The accolade of the Lifetime Achievement Award – presented in recognition of a career devoted to excellence - was received by David Wheller. Mr Wheller is a founder member and former Chairman of SOPO, as well as a former Chairman of the CBC and creator of the Procurement Agency for Essex. He also contributed significantly to both the Government’s National Procurement Strategy and the Byatt Review.
Grahame Steed, Media Director for BiP Solutions, said: “N3PD is an outstanding event and has become an important occasion for public procurement professionals across the country.
“It is testament to BiP’s position as one of Europe’s leading providers of public procurement information services, and its status and recognition amongst the procurement community, that this annual event consistently attracts high-profile delegates and speakers, such as Sir Michael.
“The event is growing year on year, and we look forward to welcoming delegates and supporters – old and new – to what will, undoubtedly, be another exceptional N3PD in 2008.”
