Government Opportunities magazine receives top accolade

24 November 2006

Government Opportunities (GO) magazine – the essential guide to public procurement in the UK – has triumphed at the Business Services Association (BSA)’s Annual Media Awards.

GO, published by Glasgow-based public procurement specialists BiP Solutions Ltd, picked up the plaudits in the BSA Specialist Journal Award, which recognises excellence in a specialist publication, in front of several hundred business leaders at the awards ceremony in London. GO was commended for the quality of its coverage of the public procurement marketplace, its increasing focus on the contribution of the private sector and its new design style.

Since its inception in 1999, GO has provided a stimulating and topical range of essential information for any organisation working with or within the public sector.

It is the fourth year that GO, which provides procurement-related news features, opinion and debate from around the world, has been recognised for its achievements. The magazine previously collected the BSA Chairman’s Award in 2002 and 2003, and former assistant editor Gary Atkinson was named as the BSA Journalist of the Year in 2005.

GO is audited by the Audit Bureau of Circulations, and in September 2006 saw its circulation increase to 8223 (July 2005 to June 2006). Its estimated readership is in excess of 30,000 each month. GO’s audience is diverse, ranging from Ministers and heads of industry to local authority procurement officers and procurement specialists in other areas.

Grahame Steed, Managing Editor of GO, said he was delighted that the magazine had been recognised for its contribution to the procurement community: “GO aims to keep all those working within public procurement, on both the buyer and supplier sides, fully up to speed with the latest thinking, developments and initiatives in this important area. We are delighted to win this award, from such a high-profile and respected organisation as the BSA.”

The BSA Awards, now in their sixth year, aim to recognise the best reporting and analysis of issues affecting the business services and outsourced services sector, and are highly prized by those working in the field.

Norman Rose, BSA Director-General, said: “I am delighted that Government Opportunities won the BSA Specialist Journal Award because of the way they have raised the profile of the benefits of Public Private Partnerships. Their coverage of public sector issues is second to none.”
