BiP in the Community
‘Home and Away’ – BiP’s community activity programme
BiP believes that an essential part of business is giving back to both the local community and wider society.
As a result, the company has instigated a ‘home and away’ community activity programme, which all staff are encouraged to engage in. BiP supports one local and one overseas charity each year, raising funds and providing other forms of support wherever possible.
Initiatives under the programme range from sponsored dress-down days to donations of much-needed equipment, educational materials or funding to deserving causes.
In addition, BiP offers work experience opportunities for pupils at local schools and colleges.
For 2010-11, BiP’s ‘Home’ charity will be the Glasgow Old Peoples’ Welfare Association, which provides an invaluable service to the elderly in and around Glasgow through the help of two thousand volunteers. Our ‘Away’ charity will be Action Aid, through which we will donate funding towards the drilling costs for a village well in Tshifudi, South Africa.
In 2009, BiP decided to celebrate its 25th anniversary year by challenging management and staff to raise £25,000 for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. In September 2009, an interim donation of £15,000 was made to the charity, with the funds raised from a mix of employee and company activitie s. A charitable joint venture between BiP and the Scottish Government also donated £10,000 to Multiple Sclerosis Society Scotland – the country’s largest charity for people affected by MS. The donation represents a percentage of the revenue from BiP’s Procurex Scotland 2008 Exhibition and Conference, and marks the second annual charitable contribution from the partnership.
BiP's 'Away' Charity in 2009-10 has been the Peru Children's Charity . Through this charity BiP is funding the cost of materials for a small family home and a community dining room for the benefit of very poor families in Las Lomas. In 2008/9 BiP funded the building of a school room in Kenya and provided student books and materials.
